Ms. Harlow's 3rd grade class officially started the Money Unit with a trip to Harlow's Market!

Mrs. Brizendine's 1st grade class learned how citizens vote on Election Day. Students had three candidates on the ballot (two book characters, and Mrs. Brizendine). Students stood in line, went to a booth to vote privately, and received stickers. Mrs. Brizendine won the popular vote! Congratulations!

All parents of school-aged children and youth with disabilities who receive special education services in Virginia are requested to complete the VDOE annual Parent Involvement Survey. This survey will remain open through December 13, 2024. Please complete one survey for each of your children who received special education services during the 2023-2024 school year.

Through the action of a committed group of youth with disabilities, the General Assembly officially recognized October as Disability History and Awareness Month (DHAM). The youth also developed this credo: Disability history education and awareness will promote positive attitudes in schools creating a culture of mutual respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for all. This month highlights the success that Virginians with disabilities have had in reducing the barriers they face to employment, healthcare, education, and community living, while also helping raise awareness of the ongoing contributions and achievements they bring to the Commonwealth throughout the year. On October 24th, the preschool students of WPES visited Holly Forks Pumpkin Patch. Students, teachers, and families enjoyed a hay ride, picking out pumpkins, playing on the playground, learning about how pumpkins grow, and enjoying a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day with our youngest Pointers!

The West Point Volunteer Fire Department visited WPMSHS today. Students in grades 6-9 had an opportunity to tour the fire truck and learn more about emergency and fire service careers. We appreciate this community partnership!

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) uses the Unified Virginia Quality Birth to Five System (VQB5) to measure the quality of early learning experiences for children. Our current quality rating is based on performance during the 2023-2024 school year.
